EGF Senior High head coach Kyle Hanson: “We started the day with a sort of victory in that 11 of 12 made the 4 a.m. departure time, because I was expecting plenty to sleep through their alarm. When we got to Hibbing it had snowed overnight so we could’ve slept in a little longer but matches got going only a tad late. With three separate matches I wanted to make sure to give the boys some variety between singles and doubles, but also keep them as close to their overall position as possible. So I had a really good first doubles team throughout the day and this might have made our overall team score look worse, as other teams all went for more singles. But this kept other matches more competitive for us. For the most part at singles even though we were taking on tougher opponents I thought we handled it very well and put a scare into some of their better players. Tate Fridgen and Jude Johnson-Bohn against Hibbing played long matches and made their opponents work. Tanner Lubinski was so close to closing out the first set against Grand Rapids along with Carson Knutson who had to jump all the way to second singles, but hung around against his opponent. While we didn’t win many matches we swung the racquet well. We are continuing to improve and we got to play some different opponents. Also congratulations to Thomas McMahon and Tate Steenerson who partnered together and won at third doubles against Grand Rapids. This was their first varsity win!”

EGF Senior High head coach Kyle Hanson: “Tough day for us. We weren’t bad, but I thought we would do better. We are shorthanded right now, however, that also gives other players a chance to play varsity and build towards earning a letter. We are a young team and a very inexperienced team that hasn’t had many practices. What was cool to see was a new player like senior Garret Beauchamp already picking up how to move at the net. The improvement he made in a week was massive. Tate Fridgen is another new senior. He’s been impressive. Today he was consistent and in every point. He had some fantastic passing shots when his opponent came to the net. All of our other returning players (Cole Gerber, Adam Johsnon, Tanner Lubinski, Jude Johnson-Bohn, Seth Aaker, Tommy Loer) have improved quite a bit from two years ago when we last had a season. However, back then we had a big senior class so they didn’t get much varsity experience. As they play matches they’ll continue to learn strategies and get better. It's improving that is our day to day goal.”
