MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Stand for Children and Memphis for All hit the streets Friday.

Going door to door in a Frayser neighborhood, hoping to bridge the gap for those unsure about the COVID-19 vaccine.

“There’s so many households that don’t know how to get a vaccine, don’t know where they can go get it or maybe they have some questions about the vaccine,” Reverend Regina Clarke from Stand for Children said.

There’s certainly a need, with the city reporting Frayser as one of the least vaccinated areas in Shelby County.

Clarke said there’s a fear factor with residents, but that’s where connecting with them comes into play.

“Some of it is building relationships,” she said. “Some of it is connecting with people. I believe that as I can share what I’ve done even my preexisting conditions and being willing to do it and how I went through the process of weighing the pros and cons. Hopefully being able to help people do that.”

Organizer Bennett Foster said access to resources is another element in this community.

“There’s also a lot of lack of internet access in 38127,” Foster said. “So we want to make sure that people have information even if they don’t have a computer or don’t have broadband.”

Bridging the gap one door at a time.

“See what people are thinking and have conversations,” Foster said. “The goal of this is to really meet people where they’re at and see what they’re thinking about the vaccine and answer any question they might have.”

They passed out flyers letting people know starting Monday at Greater Imani Church you can get the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine with no appointment from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

They’ll be out there Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
