MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is behind bars after allegedly drag racing down a South Memphis street.

Memphis police responded to a traffic call Wednesday afternoon in the 3200 block of E. Shelby Drive at a Dollar General.

An officer said he saw a brown Infiniti G35 and a light-colored Chevy Camaro speeding down Shelby Drive near Tchulahoma Road and weaving in and out of traffic.

According to an affidavit, the officer saw the same cars speeding the opposite direction down Shelby Drive, weaving in and out of traffic.

The Camaro continued westbound on Shelby Drive toward Swinnea Road.

The officer saw the Infiniti stop and park at the Dollar General, then the driver got out and entered the store.

According to the affidavit, the officer placed the driver in custody inside the store.

The driver was identified as Jaylon Pittman, 19.

The Infiniti was towed to the City lot on Klinke.

Pittman was taken to 201 Poplar, the affidavit said.

He is charged with Reckless Driving and Drag Racing.
