Members of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office along with members of the Tulsa Police Department are partnering up for a new initiative aimed at bettering the relationship between the departments and students. This new initiative is called, “Project Trust”.

Meetings are held in a forum-style group setting involving a select group of students along with police officers and deputies from both departments. School admins are also partaking. Some of the topics talked about include community/police relations, safety measures and demonstrations.

The discussions are held weekly on Wednesdays and no questions are considered off-limits.

Deputy Justin Green with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office says, “if you have issues, something you’ve seen, encountered, your family’s encountered, ask us we won’t be upset. We had some interesting questions, why do you do a traffic stop a certain way, if there’s a car that’s stolen why do you pull your gun out.”

Organizers of Project Trust hope they’ll be able to expand this to other area schools in the future.
