DENVER (KKTV) - Health officials at the state level in Colorado are making some big changes when it comes to COVID-19 restrictions.

Starting mid-April, local governments and health departments are expected to have more control over deciding the guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in their communities.

The following statement was provided to 11 News Wednesday night from the Colorado State Joint Information Center:

Under the current “Dial Framework,” counties are assigned a color based on the COVID-19 case rates. The color corresponds with certain guidelines put in place by the state for businesses and individuals to follow. Click here for more on the Dial Framework. As of Wednesday, both El Paso and Pueblo Counties were in “Level Yellow.”

It isn’t clear exactly what the state’s plan is with handling future guidelines. A new “Dial 3.0″ was just released by the state with less restrictive capacity limits.

The governor’s office sent KKTV the following statement on the upcoming changes:
