MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Fire officials are investigating a fire at a local church.
Firefighters responded to an alarm fire at Smothers Chapel CME Church, 800 N. Claybrook St., Saturday evening around 7:49 p.m.
MFD said smoke was visible from the one-story church.
The fire was under control by 8:05 p.m., and no firefighters or civilians were injured, MFD said.
The church did not have a sprinkler system.
The building sustained smoke, fire and water damage.
Total damage is estimated at $7,000.
MFD said the fire was intentionally set in multiple places inside the church.
The blaze remains under investigation.
