MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A group of outraged pastors is calling for an end to gun violence after three children were shot in Memphis Thursday night.

He said these shootings bring up painful memories because last November, a church member lost an 8-year-old loved one to gun violence.
“People are being struck down left and right in the city. People are shooting like the wild west from one car to another in the city,” said Pastor Adkins.
Pastor Adkins is tired of hearing about children getting shot in Memphis.
“We become so easy to anger about police brutality which we should, but we should also be angry about the senseless murders, the homicides, and the stray bullets that fly within our communities,” said Adkins.

Adkins said we need more neighborhood watch groups and people willing to call when a crime is committed. A call could save a young person’s life.
“We are guilty of silence,” said Adkins. “We are guilty of acceptance of the crime that is in our midst.”
He said another solution is to engage parents and children in something positive.
During the pandemic, several church programs were put on hold, but he plans on changing that. He wants to reboot programs to help children find jobs, participate in activities, and more.
“We have to give these young people something to do, something that is positive. That’s our responsibility,” said Adkins. “Killing has been commonplace in our communities. We have accepted it. That’s the problem.”
Pastor Adkins said he plans on meeting with city and county leaders to discuss other ways to engage young people in the community.
