If your New Year's resolution is to be more active, you’re certainly not alone. For mothers with young children, finding the time to focus on their physical, mental and spiritual well-being can be a challenge.
Local nonprofit Surfing Moms is helping to overcome that. Started on Oʻahu last September, it helps moms and other caretakers connect for what is essentially a beach day.
It’s modeled after the popular Surfing Mums organization in Australia. In the months since its inception in our islands, it’s expanded to California, adding new chapters in San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Redondo Beach. Surfing Moms welcomes dads and other caretakers to the group.
The Conversation sat down with Founder and President Elizabeth Madin to talk about how surfing helps with the postpartum experience.
This interview aired on The Conversation on Jan. 11, 2022. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.
