The state Department of Health has begun distributing at-home rapid antigen tests for community COVID-19 screening in certain Hawaiʻi zip codes. But there is a different federal program using a more sensitive PCR test that is underway in private and public schools across the state.
Until vaccines can be offered to those under 12 years of age, there is lots of concern about being able to keep our keiki safe. The Conversation talked to Kara Gormont, the school testing director at the Department of Health to learn more.
Gormont expects that a contract with a local laboratory to begin processing those test results will be finalized by Oct. 15.
This interview aired on The Conversation on Sept. 29, 2021.
