WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — With record unemployment across the country, many are looking to apply for jobs.
Sharron Vogler works with Wake Forest University's School of Business, where she helps students prepare for the job hunt. She says networking is a must.
"If you're not networking when you're in a job search, you will find it to be extremely frustrating and not effective at all. It is the secret sauce, the magic bullet," Vogler says.
2020 changed everything with the coronavirus. Networking moved virtual since large community events were canceled. Vogler says some are struggling with the adjustment, while others are flourishing as companies work from home.
"It can make networking even a little bit easier because it's a little easier to get on peoples' schedules because things are little bit more fluid and a little more flexible," she says.
With more competition in the workforce, she's encouraging students and clients to make their presence on LinkedIn a priority.
"It's like a living breathing rolodex. You're constantly adding people to your LinkedIn connection list, you're able to find and sort people a lot easier using LinkedIn than asking around to hunt and peck for people that are important for you to network with," Vogler says.
