Green Tree Tournament Club
On Sunday in Four Ball (Two-person better ball team event), a Northern California Golf Association qualifying event at Cypress Lakes, Clint Birch netted a 63 to qualify in a blind draw.
Damon Tyler and Barry Neves netted a 62 to take first place, while Ed Freeman took second place with a 63 in a blind draw. Jon Freels and Chris Jones finished third with a net 64.
There was a three-way tie with a net 65 for fourth place: Jesse Rios-Paull Holland, Gary Selby-Mitch Scwhartz, and Tom Newkirk-Pat Bello.
Austin Lea came closest to the pin on hole No. 3 at six feet, two inches. Ronesh Rao was nearest on No. 8 at 10 feet, seven inches. Newkirk came closest on No. 11 at four feet, five inches, while Ken Watkins was nearest on No. 14 at three feet, three inches.
Tony Perondini had the longest drive (white), while Bello had the longest drive (gold).
Paradise Valley Women’s Golf Club
In Scratch 3 play on Wednesday, Lynette Fitzgerald won first flight with a 58, followed by P.J.Lowrey (58.5), Kathy Pascal (59) and Linda Grace (61).
Second flight went to Jody Knight (56), followed by Carol Boudreau (59), Mary Fowler (61) and Trish Boldt (68).
Margie Miller and Katie Nguyen each had a 67.5 in third flight, followed by Judy Royle (68.5) and Kathryn Houk (69).
Fourth flight winner was Charlotte Godsey with a 66.5, followed by Ilene Piller (68.5), Beryl Bridges (69.5) and Henri Newland (70).
Mitchella Ybarra was closest to the pin on hole No. 3 at 25 feet and Fitzgerald was next at 26 feet.
On No. 15, Nguyen was nearest at 5 feet, five inches, and Fitzgerald was next at 16 feet.
Fitzgerald birdied hole No. 4, and Chris Moore and Regina Cortez birdied No. 9.
Fitzgerald chipped in on hole No. 4.
Niners
After having their opening day rained out last week, the Niners came back with gusto as Mother Nature came up with a beautiful day on Thursday… sunshine and no wind! Thirty-six ladies opened the 2021 season with a shamble format and great scores were enjoyed by many.
Judi Moses won first flight with a net 24, followed by Glora Ostrum (27), Judy Royle (28), Marilee Schauff (30) and Rene Romiski (30).
Chris Robertson and Nancy Schlesinger both fired a 25 in second flight, Robertson winning on the handicap hole tiebreaker. Judy Horan was next with a 26, followed by Kitty Lockwood (28), Tina Chechourka (29) and Barb Ray (30).
Third flight went to Kay Bone with a net 19, followed by Carole Wilson (22), Marge Tye (25), Barbara James (25), and Kim Weaver (26).
Willa Sheppard, Shirley Morris and Rosie McCown all netted a 22 in fourth flight, Sheppard winning on the tiebreaker. Pat Alvestad carded a 23.
Rancho Solano Women’s Golf Club
In Scratch 3 play, Lynda Donahue had the low gross of 83..
In first flight, Donahue was first, followed by Lesley Stewart, Mary Fowler and Dana Cello.
Pat Mitchell won first flight, followed by Amy Shively, Margie Miller and Mary Johnsen.
Kelyne Maertz chipped in on hole No. 2
Stewart birdied hole No. 3 and Donahue birdied No. 17.
Stewart came closest to the pin on hole No. 8 and Donahue was nearest on No. 15.
