MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis City Council members met Tuesday morning to approve funding for COVID-19 vaccinations at local Black churches.
A portion of the $1M set aside for vaccination efforts will go to making sure pop-up vaccine sites are set up at the churches.
Many Black churches have been used as pop-up vaccine sites over the last several weeks.

The City of Memphis took over vaccination efforts in Shelby County after thousands of doses were mishandled by the health department.
Pop-up vaccine sites are able to get vaccines to underserved communities.
Many of the Black churches being used as vaccine sites are in zip codes where the least amount of people have been vaccinated so far.
