WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Heart of Texas Lost & Found Pets and Cribs For Canines groups are offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the owner of a dog found wandering with a collar so tight, it created a severe laceration on its neck.

“Somebody knows this dog’s owner,” the group wrote on Facebook. Several thousand dollars have already been spent on veterinary care for G.G., short for Golden Girl, said Michelle Ann, with Cribs for Canines.

Ann explained to KWTX that G.G. is smiling and just happy to now be in the care of a trusted veterinarian, however, it will be a long road to recovery for the dog. G.G. will now have to spend several weeks undergoing treatment at the vet’s office. During that time she’s expected to receive plenty of antibiotics, pain medications and wound cleaning.

“I don’t know if it was placed on her as a puppy and they just never loosened it, but with how deep it was, I’m estimating at least 3 to 4 months like that,” Ann said.

G.G. was reportedly found on Feb. 18 near N 12th and Marrow streets in Waco.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara confirmed to KWTX his office is investigating the “really bad case.”

McNamara said some of his deputies visited the clinic where the dog is receiving treatment to speak with veterinarians and learn more about the dog.

The animal was not tagged or chipped, the sheriff said.

“It’s the worst (case) I’ve ever seen,” the sheriff added.

Sheriff McNamara is asking folks to report any other animal abuse cases to his office immediately.

“It just makes you sick thinking about the pain that this animal has been in for a long period of time,” sheriff McNamara told KWTX. “This isn’t just something that has happened in the last few days. It’s been going on for months and months.”

Once she is fully healed G.G. will be up for adoption. Ann said they have already had several folks reaching out asking how they can give the dog a home.

If you would like to donate money to help the local rescue continue caring for G.G., reach out to Crib for Canines.
