COLLEGE PARK, MD – New Maryland men's basketball head coach Kevin Willard announced the addition of two-time First-Team All-Conference USA guard Jahmir Young to the Terrapin basketball program. A native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Young was a standout at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville and played for Team Takeover, an elite AAU program in the DMV.

Young, who has declared for the NBA Draft, will maintain his eligibility to return to college and play for the Terrapins in the 2022-23 season should he withdraw his name before the deadline of June 1, 2022.

"First, I want to thank Charlotte for these past three years. I picked Maryland because it is a chance for me to come back home and to do something special," Young said. "I am excited to play under Coach Willard and his staff. To come home and to be able to do something special while being close to my family is something I couldn't pass up."

"We are thrilled to welcome Jahmir home!," said Willard. "He has been one of the most dynamic players in the country over the last few years. We are excited to welcome him to our family. He is a terrific scorer with a great basketball IQ. He's a leader on the court who will be a major addition for us this coming season. It means a lot that he's coming home after a great career at DeMatha and with Team Takeover."

This past season Young earned First-Team All-Conference USA and First-Team NABC All-District 11 honors for the second year in a row. Young finished second in Conference USA in scoring with 19.8 points per game, second in free-throw percentage (.889), ninth in assists (3.6), ninth in assist/turnover ratio (1.64) and 14th in rebounding (5.9). He was the only player in Conference USA to score in double-figures and play in every game for his team this season.
