Local roundup: Waterville softball powers way past Cony - Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel

WATERVILLE — Savanna Cormier cracked a home run for the Waterville softball team on the way to a 4-3 win over Cony in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference game on Monday.

Cormier also had a double and two singles for the Purple Panthers (4-6).

Sage Fortin and Haylee Cyr each had two singles for Cony (4-4).

LEAVITT 11, GARDINER 6: The Hornets handed the Tigers their first loss of the season in Turner.

A seven-run fourth inning by Leavitt (7-5) spearheaded the win. Nola Boutaugh hit a home run and a triple to lead the Hornets while teammate Sam Withee hit four singles. Abby Albert pitched 6 1/3 innings.

Lainey Cooley hit three singles while both Brooke Gero and Maddie Inman each tripled to lead the Tigers (9-1).

BUCKFIELD 11, OAK HILL 1: Freshman Carmen Crockett pitched a gem for the Bucks in Buckfield.

Crockett went six innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight batters for Buckfield (3-7). Alyssa Litchfield had three hits, including a triple, while Crocket had a pair of hits at the plate for Buckfield.

Oak Hill fell to 4-5.

OXFORD HILLS 9, MESSALONSKEE 2: The Vikings (9-1) scored early to put away the Eagles (3-7) in Paris.

Maddy Miller pitched six innings and earned the win for Oxford Hills from the circle. At the plate, Kaydence Morse hit a home run to help the Vikings in the victory.

Messalonskee’s Jordan Lambert hit a double and a home run.

BASEBALL

LISBON 20, CARRABEC 1, 5 INNINGS: Mason Booker cracked two doubles and earned the win on the mound as the Greyhounds cruised over the Cobras in a Mountain Valley Conference game in North Anson.

Riley Turner had two hits, including a double, for Lisbon (9-0).

Carrabec fell to 1-7.

NOKOMIS 6, WINSLOW 3: The Warriors (8-3) scored four runs in the second inning to claim a road win over the Black Raiders (3-7) and notch their sixth victory in seven games.

Cody Chretien had two singles and an RBI for Nokomis, which also got two singles from Connor Sides. Ashton Howell earned the win on the mound for the Warriors.

Andrew Poulin was the losing pitcher for Winslow.

DIRIGO 4, HALL-DALE 2: The Cougars scored two runs in the 11th inning to earn the MVC win in Farmingdale.

Drew Collins led the offense with four singles for Dirigo (5-4) while Dakota Tompkins and Trent Holman had two singles apiece.

Hall-Dale (7-3) was led by Cody Dupont with two singles and Ben Nathan with a double.

MOUNT VIEW 11, MARANACOOK 7: Draedyn Furrow had two hits, including a double, to lead the Mustangs to a win over the Black Bears in Readfield.

Noah Hurd had two hits and earned the win on the mound for Mt. View (6-4).

Nick Florek and Trent Murray each had two hits for Maranacook (10-3), while Jake McLaughlin added a double.

OXFORD HILLS 8, MESSALONSKEE 2: The Vikings (9-1) got going in the middle innings to put away the Eagles (5-5) in Paris.

Eli Soehren hit a triple at the plate and on the mound gave up just two runs on five hits, striking out eight. Andrew Merrill tallied two hits for Oxford Hills, which scored two runs in the third, five in the fourth and its final run in the fifth.

Joseph Ardito led Messalonskee with two hits.

MT. ABRAM 2, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0, 8 INNINGS: The Roadrunners (6-2) edged the Phoenix (5-5) in extra innings in Jay.

A pitchers’ duel between Mt. Abram’s Trevor Phelps and Spruce Mountain’s Isaac Parker kept the game scoreless through seven innings before the Roadrunners scored two runs in the eighth.

Wyatt Siemenski hit an RBI single, and Ian Allen drove in another run with a sacrifice fly. Siemenski led all batters with two hits. Phelps gave up three hits and struck out eight batters in eight innings.

Parker gave up five hits and two runs while striking out eight batters for Spruce. He also had a hit at the plate.

OAK HILL 25, BOOTHBAY 1: The Raiders (5-4) scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to take down the Seahawks (0-8) in Boothbay.

Ethan Vattaso hit a home run, a double and single to lead Oak Hill to the win. He also pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out five batters. Jamison Bergeron added two doubles, while Jackson Arbour, Silas Dumont, Trent Drouin and Landon Bangs all notched a double.

Boothbay’s Gryffin Kristan hit an RBI double.

LEAVITT 7, GARDINER 3: The Hornets scored five runs in the second inning and hung on for the win in Turner.

Noah Carpenter struck out six batters on the mound to earn the win for Leavitt (5-7). At the plate, Aiden Lind hit a double.

Gardiner’s (0-9) Ryan Banister tallied four hits.
