MORRISTOWN — Surging Union Local stayed hot by unloading on the invading Maroon Knights Monday afternoon, 10-4.

The Jets pitchers combined to strike out and the offense slugged out nine hits.

Leading the way offensively, was Dylan Higgenbotham who had three singles. Ayden Smolira drove in two runs with a single. Jake Toohey had a two-run double, while Kolby Smolira and Jake Compher each had a RBI single. Evan White drove in two runs.

St. Clairsville 14, Barnesville 1

BARNESVILLE — The Red Devils showed no letdown just 48 hours removed from winning the OVAC title by avenging an earlier loss to the Shamrocks.

David Vickers went the distance to earn the mound win.

Senior Will Balgo had a solo home run. Junior Drew Sefsick had a triple, single and three RBI. Freshman Braylen Blomquist had two singles and a RBI, while classmate Mason Myers had a triple, single and three RBI.

Barnesville received a single and a double from Jake Edwards. Gavin Carpenter posted a triple.

Indian Creek 6, Martins Ferry 1

WINTERSVILLE — The Redskins shut down the Purple Riders to a tune of two hits en route to the victory Monday.

Clay Cottis led the Redskins at the plate with a double, single and two RBI. Isaiah VanDine had a RBI single.

The Purple Riders had just two singles. Connor Probst drove in the lone Ferry run.

Toronto 2, Monroe 1, 9 innings

TORONTO — Returning to the field for the first time since falling in the OVAC 2A title game, the Red Knights needed extra innings before posting their 18th win.

Toronto pushed a run across in the ninth to upend the Seminoles. Chris Parker had a RBI single for the Knights and Brant Reeves had a double.

Monroe Central, which littered the base paths with nine hits, receive two singles from Auston Hogue, two from Wade Stoehr, two from Jake Winland and three from Landen Lydick.

SOFTBALL

Bellaire 6, Shadyside 1

ST. JOE — Jayden Lowe scattered four singles as Bellaire defeated visiting Shadyside 6-1 Monday in high school softball action on the Bellaire Middle School diamond.

Lowe, a senior, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. She lost her shutout bid in the fifth. At the plate, she blasted a two-run homer.

Sophie Porter singled and doubled for the Big Reds. Kaylan Brown doubled in a run and Gianna Schmidt singled in another. Kirsten Boyle also picked up an RBI.

Both teams open Division IV sectional tournament action today.

as Bellaire hosts Steubenville Catholic and Shadyside welcomes Toronto. Both games start at 5 p.m.
