At Will C. Wood on Tuesday, the Vanden High girls basketball team routed the Wildcats, 83-31, to run their record to 9-0 in Monticello Empire League play. Wood fell to 6-3.

Jiana Creswell led the Vikings with 16 points. Also in double figures for the Vikings were Kiari Roberts with 13 points, Jaylen Kuehnel with 12, Gabby Wright  with 11 and Ale Ibarra with 10.

Wood got nine points apiece from Christina Edwards and Jazmine Langi.

Vacaville 60, Armijo 45

On Senior Night at Vacaville High, the Bulldogs defeated the Royals, 60-45.

The team honored seniors Audrey Valenzuela, who scored 18 points, and Suraya Lloyd, who added 10 points.

“Sophomore Brynie Headrick had one of her best offensive games on the year and scored 20 points,” said Vacaville head coach Kate Shipp-Roberts. “This game was a battle until the very end. Both teams played hard and came ready to compete. I am glad the team pulled out a win for the seniors in what has been a very unconventional senior season.”

Boys basketball

Vacaville 79, Armijo 44

At Armijo on Tuesday, the Bulldogs turned back the Royals, 79-44.

“Lorenzo Lentini had his best game of the year with 21 points,” said Vacaville head coach Duane Kamman. “He controlled the tempo as the point guard, got us going on offense and played absolutely great.”

Vacaville, Will C. Wood and Vanden all have two losses heading to the final game of the MEL season. Vacaville hosts Wood on Friday night, while Vanden hosts Rodriguez.

The Bulldogs also got big offensive contributions from Delvin Moore with 13 points and Brayden Kamman and Evan Adams with 11 apiece.

Boys tennis

Vanden 6, Rodriguez 3

The win over Rodriguez gave Vanden a perfect 9-0 season in MEL.

“The key winning matches for us were James Remiticado at No. 4 singles (7-5, 6-0), James Pullin at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4) and Diego Riojas at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-0),” said Vanden head coach Stan Lewis. “Our doubles teams swept their their matches and finished undefeated during league play. The doubles did not lose a set all season.

The doubles winners were Jacob Alvarez-Kobe Lozano (6-0, 6-3), Maika Quidit-Mikey Lewis (6-3, 6-3) and Jacob Young-Christian Perez (6-0, 6-0).

Vacaville 7, Armijo 2

The Bulldogs downed the Royals, winning four of the six singles matches and sweeping the three doubles matches.

Singles winners for Vacaville were Canaan Teska (6-1, 6-3), Aidan Russell (6-0, 7-5), Jack Hobbs (6-3, 6-3), and Justin Thomas (6-0, 6-2).

Doubles victors for the Bulldogs were Chase Sweeney-Yash Gill (6-3, 6-2), Trenton Hill-Adam Bates (7-5, 6-2), and Christian Gutierrez-Own Johnson (6-4, 6-0).

Girls golf

Rodriguez 240, Vanden 293

Rodriguez finished off a perfect MEL regular season with a 10-0 record with their victory over Vanden, which slipped to 6-4.

The Mustangs were led by Nikki Chindavong and Darla DelaTorre, who both carded 38s. They were followed by teammates Bella Connerly (53), Destiny Mendiola (54) and Noelle Concepcion (57).

Maggie Taylor’s 48 was the low score for the Vikings, followed by Diana Borchert (49), Zoe Zanassi (60), Kara Chung (65) and Mia Preston (71).
