Local Trade Unions Hold Poker Run to Fight Opioid Addiction - Spectrum News

soworos.blogspot.com

Local trade unions played a game of poker on the go, all to raise money for those struggling with opioid addiction.

A poker run is a little different than the usual game. Participants visit different checkpoints where they receive playing cards, in hopes of making the best poker hand at the end of the run.

The money raised will go towards SOARS, a non-profit that helps those who have lost loved ones from substance abuse.

An organizer whose son died from an overdose says he wants to prevent others from dealing with the same loss.

"My heart is broken, my life will never be the same, but this my way of honoring my son and fellow addicts. It's a good thing," Joseph Grygrowych of Greece said.

The money will be used to buy a building for addicts to stay at when they’re ready for treatment, but cannot get in.

On Monday, S.O.A.R.S. says you'll see Rochester lit up purple for International Overdose Awareness Day.
