Shopping locally is one of keys needed to unlock the doors to a better economy, especially here in Buffalo, according to the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.

"We're going along the Titanic, we hit an iceberg, we're sinking and every time someone comes in and shops local, they're like a lifeboat coming to rescue us," said William Waterrose, owner of Iron Buffalo in Amherst.
Iron Buffalo sells board games and more, with a cup of jo. They're just one of many local businesses trying to stay afloat. The owner says shops like his do anything to stick out and need community support.
"If someone comes in here and buys some coffee or dice that money goes right back into the community," Waterrose said.
"It’s our Job" is the slogan for a new initiative fronted by Buffalo Niagara Partnership in hopes to revive the economy around Western New York.
"Local businesses can't survive, unless we can keep the economy open and that's not up to major corporate players, that's up to every single one of us," said Dottie Gallagher, the CEO and President of Buffalo Niagara Partnership.
The pandemic has forced many local mom and pop shops to shut down. The organization is asking community members to do their part and buy local.
"We order so much stuff from Amazon. We need to stop doing that,” Gallagher said. “We need to spend more money in local businesses. Not only local retail businesses but even when you're shopping for products in store that's how we're going to keep jobs in your community.”
For Iron Buffalo, the game board is still out, and while pieces are moving slowly, the hope is to win the game.
"Just shop local, help us. Help us survive because we're part of the community, we live in the community we have our businesses in," Waterrose said.
