FLINT, MI -- A new local taco seasoning business started in Flint this year with a rapidly growing customer-base.
Flint native Chuniq Inpower launched 810 Tacos in February. Since then she says online sales have doubled every month.
“Out of all of the crazy things that have happened this year, the birth of 810 Tacos was positive,” Inpower said.
Everyone in town loves tacos, Inpowers said. Different cultures make adaptations to food, including tacos. She said she’s been making tacos for 15 years and spent a year perfecting the original seasoning formula that is on sale online.
Seasoning is also sold at Awakened Naturals at Genesee Valley Center on Linden Road. The company is looking to partner with local grocers over time.
The reception “has been incredible,” Inpowers said.
“Food breaks down barriers and with so many things happening socially, to come together with friends and family over good food, it is kind of an oasis from some of the chaos that’s happening outside of our dinner tables at that time,” she said.
The company’s original flavor is “smokey and robust” with 10 ingredients including three peppers. There is also a new Bold and Spicy flavor, which has 12 ingredients including five peppers, garlic, cumin and sea salt.
There are no preservatives or additives in the seasoning.
“Lots of effort and energy has gone into the product people are buying and loving,” Inpowers said.
The seasoning is also versatile on smoked meats, BBQ, vegetable saute, marinade, fish and vegan dishes, she said.
COVID-19 did not negatively affect Inpowers’ newly launched business. She said it was because more people were cooking food at home.
In addition to orders coming from Michigan, she said she’s revived orders from Oregon, Florida, California and other states.
Inpower is also the City Coordinator for Hashtag Lunchbag Flint, which has served food to more than 5,500 homeless and underserved since 2014. She graduated from Carman-Ainsworth in 2005 and Michigan State University in 2010.
