The Vanden High softball team shut out Vacaville, 11-0, on Friday in Monticello Empire League play as the Vikings stayed unbeaten.
The Vikings (7-0, 6-0) were led offensively by senior Shawnese Hogue-Lacy, who on a 2-for-3 with a double and home run and knocked in four. Mia Santos went 3-for-3, knocking in two as well. Kaliyah Gipson and Cassandra Zapata also had doubles.
Senior Hazyl Gray pitched a complete game for the Vikings, only allowing two hits and striking out eight.
Then on Saturday, the Bulldogs hosted Cardinal Newman in a nonleague matchup and won 5-1.
The Bulldogs led early after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Cardinals responded with a run in the top of the third to bridge the gap to one run. The Bulldogs then secured their victory by keeping the Cardinals (6-8, 3-2) at bay while scoring one more run in the bottom of the fourth and then two in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bulldogs record now stands at 6-7 overall with a 3-3 record in the MEL. They continue with more league play when they host the Armijo Royals on Wednesday.
College baseball
Contra Costa 7, Solano 4
The Solano College baseball team lost to visiting Contra Costa 7-4 on Saturday in Bay Valley Conference play.
The Falcons led 4-2 until a four-run seventh from the Comets. Solano (8-17, 5-4) took two of three games in the series.
Jaxson Bates had two homers and four RBIs for Solano. He hit a two-run shot in the first and added a two-run blast in the fourth. Ryan Radkey took the loss.
Deandre Ganes had two homers and four RBIs for the Comets (4-24, 1-8).
Solano is at Napa Valley on Tuesday to start a three-game series.
