CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Most Promising, a new writing project by local writer Ali Black, will give local teens a new opportunity to immerse themselves in creative writing for a full year.
Black is the author of the 2020 poetry collection “If It Heals At All,” which was a finalist for the 2021 Ohioana Book Award. Her work has also appeared in Jubilat, Literary Hub, The Atticus Review and The Offing.
Designed to increase literacy skills, The Most Promising aims to help young writers gain confidence and offer an outlet for self-expression.
Black will launch The Most Promising in September, with biweekly classes, education around the publishing industry and reading and writing assignments. The program will choose 10-15 Northeast Ohio teens, ages 13-18, to take part. Those participants will receive a small stipend for their work, and will receive reading and writing materials, according to a press release.
Beyond the program, participating high school seniors can also apply for a four-year college scholarship opportunity through The Most Promising. Two scholarships will cover tuition to Northeast Ohio colleges and universities, according to a press release.
