(PHILADELPHIA) August 25, 2021 – Today, Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson, Chair of Philadelphia City Council’s Committee on the Environment, was appointed to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee.
“I am thrilled to join the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee,” said Councilmember Gilmore Richardson (At-Large). “Philadelphia just experienced another heat wave and our second heat health emergency of the summer. We have also seen devastating flooding caused by extreme storms and ozone action days for air quality. Climate change is impacting us now, and these impacts are not felt equitably. As a member of the LGAC, I will be able to bring the challenges Philadelphia faces directly to our federal government to advocate for communities. I want to thank Secretary Regan for this appointment, and I look forward to working with the other committee members on this important work.”
The 39-member LGAC will include 20 women, 16 people of color, and representation from 30 different states, Tribal nations, and U.S. territories, representing a diverse cross-section of cities, counties, towns, and communities across the United States.
Chartered in 1993 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the Local Government Advisory Committee provides independent policy advice to the EPA Administrator on a broad range of issues affecting local governments.
