ST. JOE — Bellaire had to go a little extra in defeating Union Local Friday in high school softball action.
The Big Reds scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to draw even with the visiting Jets, and then won it in the bottom of the ninth, 9-8, on the Bellaire Middle School diamond.
Kirsten Boyle led the winners’ 11-hit attack with a trio of singles that produced three runns. Gianna Schmidt and Alexis Morgan each drove in a pair of runs for Bellaire. Lizzie McAninch and Kaylan Brown each singled in a run and Quinn Boyle doubled.
Jayden Lowe earned the win in relief. She struck out three and walked two.
Marissa McGary doubled and homered to plate two runs for Union Local. Ava Lucas added a two-run single and Alleigh Cheatham homered. Rylee Magnani singled and doubled.
