Obituary: Stephen Wayne Carroll - Montclair Local

Stephen Wayne Carroll, a longtime resident of Montclair, died on Nov. 13, 2021. He was 69. 

Mr. Carroll was born in New York City to the late Mary McNiff and the late Alfred Carroll, and later lived in Leonia and Maywood. He was a member of the first class of Paramus Catholic High School. He graduated from Montclair State University as a philosophy major and lived in Montclair ever since.

He enjoyed a career as a global change management leader for many corporations, including Ernst & Young, Thomas Reuters, Pfizer, Prudential, Chanel, AT&T and Bank of America, among others. At the time of his death, he was working on a project for the Veterans Administration.

Mr. Carroll was a brilliant wordsmith with an offbeat sense of humor. A conversation with him was never boring, and his articulate voice was unique. He enjoyed books, music, concerts, plays and listening to sports radio, and he was an enthusiastic bicyclist.

He thrived on world travel and explored five continents with a great spirit of adventure. His credo was to never give up, but instead to just keep pushing through all resistance.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, and his family was the core of his being.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Eileen Dormer; his sons, Devin Carroll (Michelle) and Colin Carroll (fiancée Nolan Smith); his brother, James Carroll; his sister, Colleen Carroll Abel (Jim); his grandchildren, Caylee Carroll and Chase Carroll; his niece, Madeline Carroll; his nephews, Brendan, Andrew and Daniel Abel, and Josh Carroll, and many cousins and cherished friends.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 21, at Caggiano Memorial Home for Funerals.
