A well-known local chef is heading back to the Food Network to try to earn a little bit of “redemption.”

Sera Cuni of the Root Cellar will appear on an episode of “Guy’s Grocery Games,” airing on the Food Network Wednesday, August 18. Hosted by Guy Fieri, “Grocery Games” is a competitive cooking show where four chefs prepare food based on specific challenges, with ingredients found in the show’s own supermarket.

Cuni appeared on the show last year, but did not win. She is back this month, though, for a special “redemption” episode, featuring chefs who have been on the show in the past.

Cuni’s episode will air on the Food Network at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18. To celebrate, the Root Cellar is hosting a viewing party at the Lumina Theater in Southern Village beginning at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from the viewing party will go to Chatham County’s CORA Food Pantry.

Cuni is the chef and co-owner of the Root Cellar, with locations in Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. Both locations are currently open for takeout and outdoor dining, but the Chapel Hill location is set to reopen for indoor dining on Monday, August 16.

Tickets for the viewing party of the “Guy’s Grocery Games” episode at the Lumina Theater can be purchased here.
