Join KEET-TV and the local American Portrait crew for an online screening of “Family of Us: A PBS American Portrait Story” on Monday at 7 p.m.

This show offers a moving and meaningful picture of families in America today and the way these relationships shape people.

During the screening, you will have a chance to see some of the locally produced stories that have been collected and submitted from communities along the North Coast

KEET’s local American Portrait team includes filmmaker Jennifer Bell, cameraman David Thompson, storyteller Ali Freedlund and grant coordinator Katie Whiteside, who will give a short talk about the project and how you can participate. Go to KEET.org to sign-up.

PBS American Portrait, a national storytelling project aligned with PBS’ 50th anniversary celebration, invites America to participate in a national conversation about what it really means to be an American today. A digital first initiative produced by RadicalMedia, American Portrait began as a platform for people to share photos, videos and text submissions and capture the state and spirit of the nation. Stories can be shared at  pbs.org/american-portrait.

To submit a story, you’ll need a digital device such as a computer, smart phone or tablet. The story you tell is developed by using a provided prompt and theme which you will need to select. You will have up to one minute to tell your story on camera or you can write your story. The written story has a limitation of 800 characters and up to five photos can be submitted to your post.

Some of the prompts include: I was raised to believe…, The tradition I carry on is…, What keeps me up at night is…., When I step outside my door…, Most days I feel…, At this point in my life and more.

KEET can help you record and edit your story. Contact Katie Whiteside at kwhiteside@keet.org for more information.
