WARREN — Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is collaborating with Flying High Inc.’s GROW Urban Farm and Lit’l Macs Food Store to provide fresh, local produce offerings.

The Lit’l Macs convenience store, 1763 Parkman Road NW, will have a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs grown by Flying HIGH Inc.’s GROW Urban Farm beginning Wednesday (Aug. 12) at 2:30 p.m.

TNP has been addressing food access insecurities through the Healthy Convenience Store Initiative to help owners connect with local produce.

This effort has served to expand a local distribution network with Flying HIGH Inc., a Youngstown organization who’s programming includes urban agriculture, distributing produce to Lit’l Mac’s, a Warren convenience store and participant in the program.

Flying HIGH Inc.’s GROW Urban Farm already works with other local retailers.

TNP Healthy Food Access Coordinator Christian Bennett notes “this collaborative approach to mitigating the impacts of food insecurity in Warren not only supports healthy eating, but a healthier food distribution network by lowering food miles and supporting local growers.”

TNP released the Warren Community Food Security Strategic Plan in 2017, which identified impediments to healthy food access and emphasized the need to take a multifaceted approach to working within the food system, including supporting urban agriculture and farmers markets and partnering with existing retail nodes like corner stores to increase fresh food offerings.
