HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce launched a grassroots initiative to remind residents about the importance of supporting local businesses during the ongoing Covid-19 health crisis.

The three-part outreach program, titled Support Local, Shop Local, is geared to both residents to reinforce the importance of supporting local businesses, and to businesses to assist and support retailers as they begin to re-open to the public.

Part one rolled out last week when lawn signs began popping up around Hasbrouck Heights and Wood-Ridge. The blue and orange signs can be found on both homeowners' lawns and in the windows of local businesses in both boroughs.

Dave Meredith, Vice President of the Chamber and owner of Meredith Family Agency in Wood-Ridge, is spearheading the effort.

"It's vital to remind the public to shop at local businesses," said Meredith. "To continue use local mom-and-pop shops and support them like they've supported events and programs throughout the years."

Meredith noted that residents have been very supportive of area restaurants, but also reminded people to remember other small businesses like florists, butchers, hardware stores, and gift shops.

"You can make a difference between a store staying open or not," said Ray Vorisek, Chamber president and owner of Heights Flower Shoppe. "People don't realize that the facade of the Boulevard could change."

Part two of the initiative rolls out next week. The Chamber's website will sport a new landing page featuring the local restaurants and businesses, a one-stop portal for shoppers to go for up to date information.

Part three will be targeted directly to local businesses. The Chamber will partner with retailers, offering guidance and consultation on how to adapt to the new business environment.

"When people make a conscious decision to spend dollars locally, they can make a huge difference, more than you realize," said Vorisek.
