Local resident and small business owner Linda Chen of The Primrose School of Warren and Paris Baguette Bridgewater has launched her contribution to the nationwide "Front Porch Project" movement. The Front Porch Project is a program where photographers donate their time for photo session during the pandemic in return for donations to various charities. The Front Porch Project was started by photographer Cara Soulia in Massachusetts on St Patrick’s day.

For the last few weeks, Ms. Chen has been volunteering her time to do small family photo sessions while observing social distancing. In return for the photos, families are asked to donate a minimum of $25 per session which is 100% donated to the Somerset food bank. Ms. Chen and her Husband Burt Eng have been supporters of the Somerset Food Bank for the past 8 years. For this fundraiser they have chosen to specifically support The Backpack program which donates food to students in need of local school districts. “With so many schools closed, there is a greater need to support this cause. I think it’s important to remember times can be much tougher for some, than most”. To date Ms. Chen has been averaging a dozen session each weekend.

“During this unprecedented time, I want to continue to help families in need. I also wanted to be productive and find ways to give back and connect with local families. When I heard about the Front porch Project, it immediately called out to me”. As an avid photography hobbyist, it seemed like a perfect match. “I thought this was kind of a way of bringing everyone together and fulfill my love of photography" Chen said. "I think it's a historical time and the photos help everyone remember this time and can one day go back to and say, 'Do you remember when? When you look at the photos collectively, it captures the spirit and moment in time for each family during the pandemic. I think families want to help out during this time and this is their way of doing that."

Typical session only last about 15 minutes and is typically taken at their house front porch (aka portraits) or lawn. Ms. Chen has initially set the goal of $1000, but believes she will be able to surpass that due overwhelming response and support of the community. If you are interested in a session, please reach out to Linda Chen at lchen@primrosewarren.com. Ms. Chen plans to continue this project to mid June 2020.
