Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett was involved in a single-car crash on Monday after leaving the team's practice facility in Berea, Ohio, and was transported to a local hospital after suffering non-life threatening injures, the Browns confirmed.
Garrett, who was traveling with one passenger, was involved in a crash around 3 p.m. local time near the 5600 block of State Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol told NFL.com. Garrett was said to be alert and aware upon officer arrival at the scene. Garrett did not suffer any major injuries, according to the OSHP, and impairment is not suspected.
According to a statement from his agent, Nicole Lynn, Garrett has been "alert and responsive" at the hospital as they await word on the extent of any injuries sustained.
"Myles Garrett was involved in a one-car accident this afternoon and was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated," Lynn's statement read. "While we are waiting to learn the extent of his injuries, he has been alert and responsive. The Garrett family would like to thank the medical personnel that got Myles and his passenger out of the vehicle and safely transported to the hospital."
Garrett is expected to be released from the hospital Monday night, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per Lynn.
Garrett, 26, and his passenger were wearing seatbelts, per the OSHP. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The Browns said Monday are in the process of gathering more information on the situation.
Garrett, a two-time first-team All-Pro, has recorded three sacks through the first three games of the season.
