WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — Area motorcyclists hopped on their bikes and hit the road Saturday afternoon in the hopes of raising thousands of dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Dayton.

The fifth annual “Ride for RMHC Dayton Charity Poker Run” started at Mack’s Tavern at Miamisburg Centerville Road.

“It’s the greatest thing to watch, to see over 200 to 300 bikes leave and all the money they raise for the cause that they do,” Mackenzie Manley, owner of Mack’s Tavern, said.

The 72-mile ride will made stops at The Barrel in Springboro, Slim’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill in Spring Valley, Wings Sports Bar & Grille in Beavercreek and 1572 Roadhouse Bar-B-Q in Waynesville.

Event coordinator and “Road Capitan,” Mike Schmitz said last year riders raised over $37,000. This year their goal was $40,000.

Mike said the event has a special meaning to him and his family as the Ronald McDonald House helped his family in a time of crisis.

RMHC Dayton serves families of sick and injured children.

“Families want to stay close by their loved one who is in the hospital, usually a child,” Paula Schmitz, event organizer, said. “They provide housing; they provide food; they provide not only for mom and dad, but for any other siblings that may be a part of the family of a sick child in the hospital.”

Event organizers are confident that they will meet their goal of $40,000. We’ll update this story when we learn the grand total.
