Seven new organisations, including businesses and universities, have joined the Foundation’s Network.
The circular economy represents systemic change, and our Network must lead the transition. We work with the world’s leading and most influential organisations to demonstrate what is possible.
Our new Network members are the Ferrero Group, Fuyo Lease Group, GSK, Rheaply, University of the Arts London, the University of Portsmouth, and WestRock.
The Ferrero Group is a fast-moving consumer goods company, based in Luxembourg. Its brands include Ferrero Rocher, Kinder, Nutella, and Tic Tac. The Group is a signatory to the Foundation’s Global Commitment, to create a circular economy for plastic. It is engaging suppliers and partners to eliminate unnecessary plastic packaging through redesign, innovation, and new delivery models.
Based in Japan, the Fuyo Lease Group is a financial services company. It is committed to promoting the reuse and recycling of leased assets at the end of their lease period — in 2019, 100% of returned PCs were reused or recycled.
Based in the UK, GSK is a science-led global healthcare company that researches, develops, and manufactures medicines, vaccines, and consumer healthcare products. Its new sustainability strategy includes two goals — to have a net zero impact on climate and net positive impact on nature by 2030. Specific targets include eliminating operational single-use plastics by 2030, and its consumer healthcare business aims to ensure all product packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025, where quality and safety permits.
US company Rheaply operates an online resource management and exchange platform. The company helps organisations improve their asset management systems and better utilise their resources in ways that benefit the economy, society, and the planet. It aims to support the transition to a circular economy by connecting organisations, so they can easily manage, find, swap, or rent physical assets.
Three colleges at University of the Arts London — Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Arts, and Wimbledon College of Arts — are working to expand their circular economy expertise and influence beyond the creative industries they specialise in. The Centre for Circular Design, located at Chelsea College of Arts, leads in design research and knowledge exchange, supporting circular economy communities around the world. The university’s new graduate programme supports graduate entrepreneurs who are addressing challenges related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The University of Portsmouth is embedding the circular economy across its teaching, research, and innovation programmes. It is also adopting circular models across its working practices, and seeking to collaborate with other organisations in the plastics, fashion, and food sectors.
WestRock is a global provider of paper and packaging solutions, and one of the top five recyclers in North America. Scaling its circular economy ambitions to reduce waste and build a 100% reusable, recyclable, and compostable product portfolio, WestRock’s packaging already uses recyclable wood fibre, while its manufacturing process utilises renewable energy.
