Local man stabbed, felony charges filed

A stabbing incident at an Okemah residence left a man hospitalized with serious injuries and his alleged attacker is facing felony charges.
Thirty-year-old Mike Thompson, Jr. of Chandler has been charged with a felony charge of assault and battery with intent to kill after he allegedly attacked Lee Hodges, 36, of Wetumka with a knife.
According to an affidavit, Sgt. Carl Fletcher of the Okemah Police Department was dispatched to a residence at 301 South Ninth Street just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 on reports of a stabbing. When Fletcher arrived on scene, he was advised by Officer Tim Roland that Hodges had been stabbed and Thompson had been taken into custody.
Fletcher made contact with Bethany Fairres, who told him that she saw Thompson chase Hodges around a table inside the front door of her house then into her bedroom. Fairres said Hodges fell to the ground, rolled to his back and began kicking at Thompson, who was standing over Hodges while holding two knives, one in each hand. Fairres said Thompson kept lunging at Hodges with the knives, and when she began screaming, Thompson ran out of the house.
According to the affidavit, Hodges repeatedly told Fairres that Thompson had stabbed him, and when Fairres saw blood, she began running to neighbors’ houses, looking for a phone so she could call police. Fairres told Fletcher that she saw Thompson get into a truck that belongs to Quinton Osborn and when the truck pulled away, officers Tim Roland and Charles Starkey, Jr. stopped and restrained Thompson then placed him in a police unit.
Fletcher spoke to Thompson’s mother, who told him she wasn’t sure what had happened, only that Thompson came to her house and woke her up, saying to wake Osborn up because he needed a ride. She told Fletcher that when the two men left, officers pulled up and detained Thompson.
As Fletcher conducted a search for the weapon, Fairres told him that she saw a knife around her front porch area that looked like the one used in the alleged attack. Fletcher spotted a hat, which Fairres said Thompson was wearing when he entered her house, chasing after Hodges.
According to the affidavit, Thompson later admitted to Police Chief Ed Smith that he had stabbed Hodges. The admission came after Smith informed Hodges that an alibi he had provided was not corroborated.
Thompson was initially arraigned in Okfuskee County Court on July 2, where he entered a plea of not guilty, according to court records. A preliminary hearing has been set for July 9. Thompson will be provided with a defense lawyer by the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System at the expense of the state.
Hodges was reportedly taken to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he underwent surgery for his wounds. He was released from the hospital on July 1.
