Harness race horses with Corydon and Harrison County connections raced last week in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and at Hoosier Park in Anderson, as well as at the Clinton County fairgrounds in Indiana and in Lebanon, Ky.
Last Wednesday and Thursday, at Frankfort, a full slate of Indiana Sired County Fair racing included 28 races with 179 head of 2- and 3-year-old, trotters and pacers, colts and fillies born and raised in Indiana. Charlie Conrad raced four 2-year-old pacers and all collected purse money with Jack Wacker, Topville Celebrity and Onoitsmymothernlaw all cashing second-place checks and Catholic Girl finishing fourth.
On the 2-year-old trotter side, the Conrad stable collected two fifth-place checks with Amigo Style and Boom Pow. The John Spotten stable’s Aslar was fourth in his freshman trotting race, while JL Dance with Me from the Simon Girod barn of Salem finished sixth in her heat.
The 3-year-old pacers at Frankfort included two from the Conrad barn and two from Hayswood Farm. On the filly side, Hayswood Pacifica paced home in third in one race and Hayswood Linda was fourth in her heat. Conrad’s filly Moscato was in the same heat with Hayswood Linda and stuck her neck in front for third-place money. Conrad’s pacing colt Bludhaven had a dose of poor racing luck and finished fifth.
In the trotting races at Frankfort for 3-year-olds, Conrad’s Mt. Swanmore collected second-place money.
Indiana fairgrounds racing moves to the Shelby County fairgrounds today (Wednesday) and tomorrow with all local horses expected to compete.
At the fairgrounds in Lebanon, Ky., on Saturday, the Conrad stable collected fifth place with RV’s Finale and second with Seaside Hill, both 2-year-old pacing colts. The Brock Stable, which trains at the Harrison County Fairgrounds from their home base in Louisville, collected third-place money with the filly Shakira’s Song and fourth with the colt Herschel W.
The highlight of the week at Hoosier Park in Anderson for Harrison County was the racing debut of the 2-year-old pacing filly Soul Kitchen, a daughter of Alvin Walther’s mare Kieanna’s Angel, born and raised south of Lanesville. Now owned by a syndicate, including prominent Ohio and Indiana interests, this filly tuned up for Indiana Sire Stakes action with an impressive win in 1:55:2. Also a winner last week at Hoosier Park was the older gelding Hayswood Ron from Corydon, who wired the field in a lifetime best of 1:53:1.
On Thursday night at Hoosier Park, Conrad’s stallion Uncaged was fourth in his race, Brock’s gelding Six Day Wars was 10th and the Conrad filly Ultimaroca was eighth in a sire stakes eligible event. On Saturday at Hoosier Park, Simon Girod’s 2-year-old trotting colt Pilgrim’s Image, who trains in Corydon on occasion, was seventh in his race.
The older pacing gelding Enoch, also a son of Kieanna’s Angel and also a Lanesville Eagle at heart, was fifth in his race Saturday at the Meadows in Pennsylvania.
In New Jersey, on Saturday night’s Meadowlands Pace undercard, Conrad’s star pacer, Skyway Quinton, was seventh in a field of 10 of the top older conditioned pacers competing on the East Coast.

Two sets of races took place at Indiana county fairgrounds, but the schedule on Saturday at the Newton County fairgrounds in Kentland did not include any local horses.
Last Wednesday at the Jay County fairgrounds in Portland, a full slate of Indiana Sired County Fair racing included 23 races with 156 head of 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers, colts and fillies born and raised in Indiana. Charlie Conrad’s impressive group of five 2-year-old pacers all collected purse money with Topville Celebrity and Ultimaroca both winning their races, Ohnoitsmymothernlaw finishing second in hers and Jack Wacker and Keep’s Admiral both finishing fourth in their races.
On the 2-year-old trotter side, the Conrad stable collected two more fourth-place checks with Amigo Style and Boom Pow. The John Spotten stable’s Aslar was fourth in his freshman trotting race, while JL Dance with Me from the Simon Girod barn of Salem finished sixth in her heat.
The 3-year-old pacers at Portland scorched the oval with amazing times for a half-mile track. On the filly side, Hayswood Pacifica paced home in fourth with a time of 1:58:2, and Hayswood Linda was third at the wire in her heat in 1:59:3. Both fillies, owned by Hayswood Farm of Corydon, were unraced at two. Charlie Conrad’s 3-year-old pacing colt Bludhaven was second in his mile in a time of 1:57:3. That would equal the track record for the fastest mile in history if it had happened in Corydon.
In the final race of the day at Portland, a mile for 3-year-old trotting colts, Conrad’s Mt. Swanmore collected the winner’s share in a time of 2:02:3.
At the fairgrounds in Lebanon, Ky., on Saturday, the Conrad stable collected fourth place with RV’s Finale and second with Seaside Hill, both 2-year-old pacing colts. The Brock Stable, which trains at the Harrison County Fairgrounds from their home base in Louisville, collected second-place money with the filly Shakira’s Song and third with the colt Herschel W.
At Hoosier Park last week, Conrad’s pacing filly Moscato came home eighth after an early break. Also eighth in his race was the gelding Hayswood Ron. Later in the week, Conrad’s stallion Uncaged continued the theme with eighth-place score in his race. Breaking the pattern was Brock’s pacer Six Day Wars, finishing ninth. After a second-place check last week, Brock’s older pacer, Winyard Hanover, finished sixth in his race. The only paycheck at Hoosier Park last week for local horses came Saturday night when Pilgrim’s Image from the Girod Stable of Salem came home third with a great effort.
At Running Aces in Minneapolis, Lanesville native To the Limit paced home in third place on the Tuesday program. On Friday at the Meadows racetrack near Pittsburgh, his half brother, Enoch, also born and raised on the Alvin Walther farm near Lanesville, started his 2020 campaign with a big win in a qualifying race.
