Fishers has recorded just over one-third of all coronavirus deaths and more than a quarter of all positive test results in Hamilton County.
The city's health department for the first time Thursday released the data. The city of about 90,000 people has had 35 deaths and 450 positive cases as of Wednesday, data revealed.
Fishers has had one death and 55 positive cases in the last 14 days.
Indiana coronavirus cases: 453 new cases, 13 additional deaths reported
The city formed its own health department in April and the Hamilton County Health Department relinquished its control a couple weeks later. The department has established free testing at several sites for city residents over 18 years old. The Fishers City Council approved $2 million from cash reserves to provide the testing service and establish the department.
The city has been taking state and county data and separating Fishers' coronavirus numbers and feeding it into a city dashboard kept on the health department website.
City spokeswoman Ashley Elrod said narrowing the data will allow city health officials to respond quicker to outbreaks, conduct contact tracing and send out alerts to residents. It's a luxury that other Hamilton County cities do not have because they rely on the county health department, which has not broken out the infection numbers by city, she said.
"The ability for us to react quickly," Elrod said, "is invaluable."
"My hope is that Fishers residents will be able to use this data," Monica Heltz, public health director for the Fishers Health Department, said in a written statement, "as a small tool in their toolbox to keeping themselves safe during this pandemic."
Heltz said there has been an uptick in positive cases recently that rival the peak of April and encouraged residents to wear masks and stay socially distant over the Fourth of July.
All the deaths in Fishers are to people over 60 years of age with the most — 12 — of people between 80 and 89.
But the age group with the most positives are 50-59-year-olds, followed by those who are 30 to 39. Females account for 51% of the positives and males account for 43%. The rest are unknown.
Indiana's total number of cases is 46,387 with 2,469 deaths, the state reported on Thursday. Hamilton County has had 100 deaths and 1,502 positive cases.
