Montclair residents are participating in a number of protests, gatherings and events this weekend to call for action in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.

Montclair students, teachers, parents and community members braved a rainy Friday afternoon to take part in a mobile protest, organized by the Montclair Education Association, with attendees holding signs out of their car windows.

The convoy of vehicles traveled past each of Montclair’s schools, starting with Bradford, and finished with a gathering at Nishuane Park, where tributes are being left at the township’s memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.

On Saturday, a parade of protesters marched from Crane Park to the Montclair Police Department headquarters on Bloomfield Avenue, where speakers and attendees called for reform to policing and law enforcement.
