On Sunday night, MLB Network will air the latest documentary under its "Presents" series. This one, entitled "Junior" will focus on, you guessed it, Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. The program will premiere at 8 p.m. ET.
Narrated by Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown, the film will focus on Griffey's career, highlighting his rise to becoming the new face of baseball during his tenure with the Seattle Mariners in the 1990s. "Junior" includes interviews with Griffey Jr. himself, as well as a number of notable figures from both the sports and entertainment world.
Griffey's former Mariners manager Lou Piniella and former teammates Edgar Martinez, Joey Cora and Jay Buhner all make appearances throughout to discuss Griffey's significance for the franchise in the '90s. Lakers superstar LeBron James is interviewed for the documentary, and while James doesn't have an immediate tie to baseball or Seattle, he can relate to Griffey being in that the pair were both young phenoms in their sport who began their respective careers with an immense amount of pressure on them.
Former Seattle SuperSonics player Gary Payton and Seattle native and rapper Macklemore are also featured in the documentary, crediting Griffey for revitalizing and saving baseball in Seattle after the 1994 MLB work stoppage.
Some of the key moments featured in the film include Griffey's first overall selection by the Mariners in the 1987 MLB Draft; Griffey Jr. and Griffey Sr.'s history-making back-to-back home runs as Mariners teammates; the Mariners' 1994 American League Division Series victory over the New York Yankees in which Griffey scored the game-winning run to send the Mariners to the American League Championship Series; Griffey's trade to Cincinnati and subsequent injury trouble; and the lead-up to Griffey's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2016.
Griffey finished his career with 630 home runs, seventh-most in big-league history, trailing only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays and Albert Pujols. The 13-time All-Star was took home the AL MVP honors in 1997 and racked up 10 Gold Glove awards and seven Silver Sluggers. After 22 years in baseball, Griffey Jr. finished with a .284 batting average, a .538 slugging percentage, 1,836 RBI and 2,781 hits.
After 11 seasons with the Mariners, Griffey was traded to the Cincinnati Reds before the 2000 season. He spent eight and half seasons with the Reds before he was sent to the Chicago White Sox. Griffey played the final two seasons of his career, 2009 and 2010, back with the Mariners. In 2016, Griffey was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2016 with 99.3 percent of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

MLB Network will air Griffey Jr.-focused programming all day on Sunday as a lead-up for the documentary. Griffey's two-home run game against the Texas Rangers on June 14, 1994 will re-air on MLB Network at 11 a.m. ET, followed by Griffey's MVP performance in the 1992 MLB All-Star Game at 1 p.m. ET.
The iconic Game 5 of the 1995 Mariners-Yankees ALDS will be shown at 3 p.m. ET followed with the 6 p.m. ET viewing of Griffey's historical day on Father's Day, 2004, when he hit his 500th career home run as a member of the Reds, with Griffey, Sr. in attendance. The documentary will close out the Griffey-themed day with its premiere on Sunday, June 21, at 8 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
