Making a Splash: Local Pools Announce Plans to Open - County 17

Both the Campbell County Recreation Center and City of Gillette have announced plans to open their swimming pools effective this month.

The Rec Center pool will be open on Monday, June 8, with open swim for up to 100 people. Lap swim and adult water walking will also open with up to nine swimmers in the lap pool (with six lap swimmers at a time) and up to 15 water walkers, per a Friday release from Campbell County Parks and Recreation.

The climbing wall is also now open for certified belayers only with no stone basics or youth climbing classes offered at this time. For more information about pool times as well as other activities, visit Campbell County Parks & Recreation. 

The Gillette City Pool, meanwhile, will open on Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m., per City of Gillette Communications Manager Geno Palazzari.

Campbell County Parks and Recreation worked with Campbell County Public Health to submit a variance in accordance with state public health orders, he said.  Several restrictions will remain in place per the approved variance request, including limiting pool capacity to 150 patrons at a time with a separate entrance and exit. Furthermore, per the new rules, no toys or buckets will be allowed and the waiting line will be marked to allow for social distancing. Locker rooms will also be open with staff disinfecting surfaces between uses. Staff will also record patron information to allow for COVID-19 contact tracing.

The City Pool will be open as follows after June 22:

Open Swimming

• Monday – Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. | 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday:  10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. *Including July 4th
• Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• The pool will be open on July 4th for regular Saturday hours.

Lap Swimming

• Monday – Friday: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
