MUSCATINE, Iowa – While the 300 block of East 2nd Street remains a construction zone, the contractor will allow local traffic into the block so that customers will have easier access to those businesses.
KE Flatworks, Inc., is currently working with the business owners on a schedule to replace the sidewalk on each side of the 300 block of East 2nd Street that would limit the amount of time access would not be available due to the pouring of concrete. KE Flatworks, Inc., city project managers and Public Works staff, and the business owners will meet again Friday morning to discuss the plans.
Meanwhile, KE Flatworks, Inc., has agreed to open up the paved portion of the block to local traffic.
Entry into the block will be from Walnut Street with parking available on both sides of the street. Vehicles will have to turn around before the Cedar Street intersection and head back out through the Walnut intersection. Stripping for parallel parking has been completed.
The area from Walnut through the Cedar Street intersection remains a construction zone with drivers, passengers, and pedestrians reminded to be cautious when in the area. The contractor has added millings along both sides of the street to make access from the street to the sidewalk safer, but caution is still urged when transferring from the completed pavement to the sidewalk.
The contractor may close off the entire block or sections of the block as needed during the remainder of the construction process on this stage. Please watch for signs.
Work on this section of the 2nd Street Streetscape Project is expected to continue through the first weekend of July. Once completed, the contractor will move to the 200 block of East 2nd Street for sidewalk replacement. That stage also includes full replacement of the Sycamore Street intersection. Weather permitting, that work will begin on July 6, 2020.
