As restaurants slowly reopen at 50 percent capacity you might ask yourself:
Are my favorite restaurants open?
What can I expect when I arrive?
Our weekly "Takeout Tuesday” has morphed into “Local Eats” where our reporters around the state shine a spotlight on local restaurants that are open now for dine in and takeout.
One is Dr. Rolf’s BBQ in Muskegon, our pick for Michigan’s Best Chili.
Along with traditional BBQ meats and sides, the downtown restaurant offers three chilis on its menu.
We said: “Three distinct chilis earned Dr. Rolf’s the title of Michigan’s Best Chili! That’s right, they serve red, white and green chilis, and each one has its own characteristics, and each one is worthy of the title. That’s what made it an easy call for us.”

This summer it plans to add picnic tables outside, which is part of the city of Muskegon’s efforts to expand outdoor seating. Eventually, Dr. Rolf’s owners envision putting up fencing and tents to make it “feel more like a dining space.”
Read more about what Dr. Rolf’s is doing to attract diners, as well as other restaurants across the state, in the links below.
You’ll find everything from pizza to yams to Ethiopian food to ice cream. Many are nominees from our Michigan’s Best series.
