Samuel and Jean Basnight celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 14, 2020. They were married at the home of Jean’s parents on the North End of Roanoke Island, which is still standing.
Samuel grew up in Mashoes, while Jean was born and raised in Manteo.
The Basnights have three children, Chris, Sandy and Anna. The Basnights both worked over thirty years in their respective fields before retiring, Samuel working in radio communications and Jean serving as the secretary for Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.
