What lies beyond the pandemic? MassForward is MassLive’s series examining the journey of Massachusetts’ businesses through and beyond the coronavirus pandemic.

As shutdowns began going into effect across the nation, an idea for a new venture to help Western Massachusetts residents shop locally was brewing.
“We chose to shut down our retail business on March 14 and switch to just home deliveries for a while,” said Tim Monson, owner and operator of Monsoon Roastery in Springfield. “And we realized there was a big demand for home deliveries.”
Fearing that social distancing guidelines would limit the number of vendors setting up at farmer’s markets in the region and that many regular shoppers would stay home, Monson teamed up with other local businesses to bring the market to them.

In a partnership between a dozen businesses, Monsoon Provisions was formed.
The service allows for residents to order a mix of fresh bread, cheese, coffee, local produce and meat to be delivered or picked up weekly.
Offerings currently include:
- A produce box from Stony Hill Farm in Wilbraham. Each week will feature a different mix of produce. The first week’s will include: salad mix, baby kale, cucumber, radishes, garlic scapes, zucchini and swiss chard.
- Dried or fresh mushrooms from Urban Artisan Farms / Mahina’ai Mushrooms in Springfield
- A choice of six flavors of bread from NOSH Restaurant in Springfield
- Locally butchered meat from Corsello Butcheria in Easthampton. This week’s offering includes sweet or spicy Italian sausage or ground beef
- A choice of six varieties of cheese from Smith’s Country Cheese
- Two flavors of LifeBooch Kombucha in Easthampton
- Oat Milk
- Jams and jellies from Wickedly Wild Gourmet Sauces in Granby
- Maple syrup and honey from Windsor Hill Sugar House
- Grilling rubs from Fatboyz BBQ in Springfield
- Soaps from Cold Spring Soapery in Belchertown
Monson views it as a means to help local businesses who were impacted by coronavirus shutdowns as well as support residents shop while social distancing.
“Keeping money within the local economy was a no-brainer,” he said.
Orders can be placed each week Thursday through Sunday. Boxes will available for pickup or delivery on Friday and Saturday.
Those who want to use EBT/SNAP benefits for their order can reach out for assistance in doing so.
Pickup orders will be available at Monsoon Roastery, 270 Albany St. in Springfield.
Delivery is currently available for the following communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Massachusetts: Springfield, Chicopee, South Hadley, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, West Springfield, Agawam, Feeding Hills, Westfield, Holyoke and Easthampton.
Connecticut: Enfield, Suffield and Somers
