Elise Menaker will join play-by-play announcer Alex Cohen as an analyst on Marquee Sports Network’s remaining schedule of Triple-A Iowa Cubs telecasts this season, the network announced Monday.
Menaker, who primarily contributes to the channel’s major-league Chicago Cubs coverage, also has been a softball analyst, studio host and football sideline reporter for Big Ten Network since 2017.
Her Iowa Cubs debut from Des Moines will be Thursday’s game against the Columbus Clippers, a Cleveland Indians farm team.
Heading into Tuesday, the Iowa Cubs are 10-18 and in sixth place in the seven-team Triple-A East Midwest Division. The Clippers are in last, a half-game behind.
Marquee last month began presenting the Cubs’ top minor-league club’s home games both to introduce fans to prospects en route to the majors and to add live action of potential local interest to its schedule. Ten games remain on its TV slate.
Menaker’s on-site addition represents a second milestone for Marquee, which earlier this season broke new ground using Beth Mowins as a fill-in announcer, the first time the Cubs have had a woman do play-by-play.
Menaker, a graduate of New Trier High School with a master’s degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, was a four-year softball starter at Cornell — which added her last year to its Athletics Hall of Fame.
She previously worked for NBC Sports Chicago; KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Mo.; WAND-TV in Decatur, Ill.; and WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee.
“Elise has been doing terrific work on Marquee, and we know she and Alex Cohen will do a great job,” Mike Santini, Marquee’s senior vice president of programming and production, said in the announcement.
Marquee is the regional sports network launched last year by the Cubs and Sinclair Broadcast Group. It’s the exclusive home to the Cubs games the team controls.
