RICHLAND, MI— For the last three years, The Local has been dishing up specialty pizzas and American bar favorites.
The Local restaurant, located at 9805 E, M-89, was opened in November 2017 by owners Justin and Grace Lennon.
Like many restaurants, The Local has been constantly adapting to changes and restrictions in the restaurant industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lennons have adapted, removing tables and placing plastic dividers between tables.
Now with the indoor dining ban in effect since Nov. 18, the restaurant has added three heated igloos. The igloos can be reserved for outdoor dining every day of the week at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8p.m. They are also available for lunch, on first-come basis.
“We already had a well-established delivery and takeout service prior to the pandemic, which has been very helpful,” owner Justin Lennon said.
The Local has a wide variety of food on its menu, but the specialty pizzas are among customer favorites. The restaurant offers 15 specialty pizzas with a special garlic butter crust — from “mini” size up to 24-inch pies. In addition to pizza, The Local serves up delicious wraps, burgers, pastas, soups and salads. The price range for most food items is between $8 and $15.
The Richland eatery also offers to-go cocktails for $6, with an upcharge for premium liquor. If beer is more your thing, they have eight drafts available for growler fills for $18. Patrons can also purchase a stainless steel 70-ounce growler for $30 dollars, which comes with an offer for 40% off the first fill. In addition, The Local offers a variety of hot cocoas that can also be turned into adult beverages.
The Lennons look for opportunities to help out within the community. Recently, the Lennon’s donated the use of their 18-passenger van to help Gull Lake’s basketball team ‘pack the bus’ with donations to Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
“This has been a perfect time to live in a small town,” Grace Lennon said. “The support from the community has been great.”

The Local is open seven days a week 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. They ask if customers would like to place a delivery order to make it an hour before closing. Customers can keep up-to-date with specials on The Local’s Facebook page.
