BUCYRUS—A Bucyrus woman has combined her love of her grandchildren and her passion for writing to pen her first book.

DeAnna Hayes said six of her 12 grandchildren, and one on the way, are characters in her first book.

“I was babysitting some of my grandchildren one day and the idea for the book began to form in my mind. They inspire me so much so it seemed fitting that they become characters in my books. It is something for me to leave behind for them,” said Hayes.

Her first book, “Hidden Souls,” is set in Las Vegas, the city Hayes, for the most part, grew up in.

“I was a military brat because my dad was an Air Force guy. He is from Bucyrus so I spent every summer here with family and always loved this town,” said Hayes.

She said Las Vegas was a wild place for a teenager.

“I learned a lot growing up in a city as wild as Las Vegas and still have friends and family there but I have always loved Bucyrus,” said the wife, mother, and grandmother who relocated to Bucyrus 15 years ago.

Hayes has worked at Bucyrus Community Hospital and Walmart.

“I have worked with some amazing people and they, along with my grandchildren, were huge inspirations for this book also,” said Hayes, who is now a stay-at-home grandma.

She said reading and writing have been her passions since she was a child and once she discovered paranormal books, she was hooked.

“Paranormal is my heart. Dragons, vampires, and all of that, so that is what I write most of the time,” said Hayes. “I really love bringing a story to life and hopefully bringing joy to those who read it.”

She writes as the description for the book, “Come with me on a journey. One filled with vampires, werewolves, and everything in between. This tale is about the hidden souls among us and how the entire world is about to change. Creatures from fairy tales are stepping up, and they are us.”

Hayes inked a deal with Newman Springs Publishing for the production of her first book.

“They have been wonderful to work with and made everything so much easier. I paid them to edit the book, create the cover and publish it and they have done an incredible job,” said Hayes.

She said the book is available in both print and e-book versions through an array of platforms, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes.

Hayes is already working on her second book that will be set in Bucyrus.

“I will also be including more of my grandchildren as characters. I want this to be a legacy for them, something to remember me by when I am gone from this earth someday,” said Hayes.
