In response to the devastation wreaked by the Dixie Fire, The Common Good Community Foundation established the Dixie Fire Relief Fund in mid-August. The foundation’s goal was to raise $40,000 and to date, $204,526 in donations has been received.
“Local residents contributed so generously to the relief fund and this is a reflection of how Plumas County residents come together during difficult times,” commented Susan Christensen, a member of the foundation’s Board of Directors. “Perhaps those who suffered devastating losses can find comfort in knowing how many of their friends and neighbors stepped up to help them recover.”
Donations ranged from $3 to $40,000 and were received from individuals, organizations, corporations, family funds, churches and businesses in Plumas County, as well as throughout California and the United States.
“We are so fortunate to have the generous support of so many local donors and businesses, as well as organizations such as the Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council, the Graeagle Men’s Golf Association and the Lost Sierra Chamber,” commented Colleen McKeown, the foundation’s founder and President. “The response we received from individuals and sources throughout the United States was also incredible.”
One hundred percent of the donations will be used to assist communities, individuals and families directly impacted by the Dixie Fire. Already $105,105 in funding has been distributed and a full list of those donations is available on the foundation’s website at www.commongoodplumas.org. The Board of Directors will be distributing the balance of the Dixie Fire Relief Fund monies over the next few months.
The Common Good Community Foundation’s Board of Directors is humbled and amazed by the generosity of our donors and extend its heartfelt gratitude to all.
