Did you see a smoking red 1968 Chevy Camaro convertible being driven by a strange man with sunglasses and a striking dyed hairstyle near Bend over the summer? Well, you weren’t dreaming.
Guy Fieri, the undisputed king of Flavortown USA, recently visited the state of Oregon and will be showcasing some of the best food options in Bend on the Food Network.
Fieri, the celebrity chef and host of the network’s long-running show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” visited the city in June and the local episodes have begun airing. In fact, one of them debuts Friday.
The dazzling host visited Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails, Rockin’ Dave’s Bistro & Backstage Lounge, and Dump City Dumplings during his trip to the Pacific Northwest.
Fieri’s episode at Zydeco Kitchen aired earlier this month on Oct. 1. The Rockin’ Dave’s filming premiers at 6 p.m. Pacific Friday. Dump City Dumplings is scheduled hit television on Nov. 5.
“It was a very cool experience because (chef and co-owner) Steve (Helt) and Guy have very similar backgrounds,” Cheri Helt, co-owner of Zydeco told Source Weekly about Fieri’s visit.
David Flier, owner of Rockin’ Dave’s, said he was featured after several customers emailed and recommended his restaurant to the Food Network. The network got in touch with Flier over the phone, where he explained some of the specialties he serves. Fieri picked three items to try from the selections.
Dump City Dumplings co-owner Keith Shayon told The Bulletin he was blown away to be included in the show and is excited to see it aired on television. He said the shoot for the episode took several hours but went smooth and Fieri had a good understanding of their practices and showed interest in why they make dumplings so well.
“And by the end of it, my business partner, Dan, and he were really having a good time eating some dumplings together and sharing our dipping sauces, and he just seemed really excited about it,” Shayon said.
