Ballard has gained a new vintage and boutique store: It’s called found, now open at 5346 Ballard Ave NW.
Found has taken over the space that was previously home to Indie Frock, which now sells online and in the Fremont Vintage Mall. Found Owner Jamie Hoffman has a long history of retail ownership, starting with his purchase of Atlas Clothing on Capitol Hill back in 2005.
Atlas eventually merged into the Fremont Vintage Mall in 2008, which is still a thriving vintage hub in North Seattle. Hoffman also started SODO Flea, held monthly in SODO and featuring local artisans with handcrafted and vintage goods.
Hoffman says he hopes to bring a similar vibe to found Ballard: “At found, you’ll get blissfully lost in the thoughtfully curated, ever changing selection of one-of-a-kind, bohemian chic home furnishings and décor, on trend handbags and accessories, unique gifts from around the world and locally sourced for everyone on your list… and that unexpected, uncommon find you didn’t know you had to have, but somehow seems to have been chosen just for you,” Hoffman shared on his website.
While Hoffman is an expert in all things vintage, found features more than just antique treasures; it’s also a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces from local artists.
Hoffman told the Ballard Alliance that he plans to use found to highlight local talent as well as sell high-quality vintage. “When the space became available in Ballard I knew it was the opportunity I had been looking for to give these talented makers a brick and mortar space to show off,” he said.
Along with the brick-and-mortar, Hoffman is also selling some products online, from vintage rugs to artisan dog treats to handcrafted cocktail syrups by Bremerton-based Elixir Fixer.
As a former Ballardite, Hoffman said the neighborhood had the right energy: “It is a vibrant place and really fits the mold of the clients we are hoping to attract.”
“We hope [customers] leave feeling inspired. It is more than a store in our book,” Hoffman told the Alliance. “Eventually it will be a place for pop-ups, events, trunk shows, classes and hopefully a gathering spot for makers and consumers alike. With luck, our modern-day mercantile will accomplish the goal of showing off the talented makers in the area and also inspiring others to create.”
Found opened its doors July 2nd, and store hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can stay updated on store happenings by following found on Instagram.
