Montclair ex-chief's free speech isn't 'fake news' (Letter) - Montclair Local

This is in response to reading the opinion letter by Stu Zakim in the July 22 Montclair Local, who writes, “As a subscriber and member of the Montclair Local, I ask you to stop giving the former police chief this platform to continue his fake news regarding cannabis.”

He goes on to point out a few destructive acts of irresponsible parents that were not mentioned in a previous letter by another subscriber.

If you do not like what is being said or written, do not read it. Turn the page. It is an opinion piece in the letters section — an open forum to share opinions, not a place where one tries to outrank or bully the other into silence. Freedom of speech is a real thing and should not be stifled because you do not agree.

Marijuana can be beneficial in some cases and can also be harmful in other situations, as pointed out by persons writing about both sides, each citing their own credentials.

That one does not agree with the other does not make it real or fake news.

What happened to tolerance and respect?

Maybe we need to have a public timeout room for parents with reefer pumping through the air vents for the intolerant, and require them to walk to it and then walk home to find the peace that we so need in this crazy, mixed-up world that our children are thrust into.

Peace out, man. Peace out.

Letters may be edited by Montclair Local for grammar and style. While our goal is to publish most letters we receive, Montclair Local reserves the right to decline publication of a letter for any reason, including but not limited to concerns about unproven or defamatory statements, inappropriate language, topic matter far afield of the particular interests of Montclair residents, or available space.

Square” banner. “Town Square” essays should be no more than 750 words in length, and topics should be submitted to letters@montclairlocal.news at least seven days prior to publication.
